RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-1047

A resolution recognizing November 13-19, 2005, as "American Education Week".

WHEREAS, the week of November 13-19, 2005, has been designated American Education Week by the Metropolitan Nashville Education Association in conjunction with the Metropolitan Board of Public Education; and

WHEREAS, this year 2005, marks the 46th anniversary of the celebration of American Education Week in Nashville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, this year's theme is "A Strong America Starts with Great Public Schools", and it is appropriate that during this week the entire community celebrates with those individuals in the field of education for the many achievements and accomplishments throughout the year; and

WHEREAS, by equipping young Americans with both practical skills and broader intellectual abilities, schools give them hope for, and access to, a productive future; and

WHEREAS, during the week, Nashville Public Schools, its students, teachers, parents and administrators will be recognized for their commitment, their dedicated efforts, and their outstanding contributions to the enhancement of public education in Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, November 16th will be a special day to honor the school bus drivers, cafeteria workers, teachers' aides and other education support professionals who positively impact our school communities and Friday, November 18th to honor the work of substitute educators; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes November 13-19, 2005, as "American Education Week" and call upon all Americans to provide all students with quality education so that they can grow, prosper, and achieve in the 21st century.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing November 13-19, 2005, as "American Education Week".

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
