RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-1045

A resolution recognizing and honoring the 30th anniversary of Harris-Hillman Special Education School.

WHEREAS, on Sunday, October 9, 2005, Harris-Hillman Special Education School celebrated their 30th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, to celebrate this joyous occasion, members of the school and students celebrated with an open house and program attended by Mayor Bill Purcell, former principals, staff and students, as well as holding a separate celebration for the students with cake and a magic show; and

WHEREAS, for the past 30 years, Harris-Hillman Special Education School has provided students with education services, therapies, occupation therapies and other services, as well as opportunities to enter the community and experience activities they would normally not be able to experience; and

WHEREAS, Harris-Hillman Special Education School is located at 1706 26th Avenue South, and Principal Robert Halpin was the first to lead the school, and through the years the school has been honored with a number of fine leaders. Since January 2004, Principal Robbie Hampton has shared her wisdom and guidance; and

WHEREAS, Harris-Hillman Special Education School began in September 1975 with 19 teachers and 95 students and today has 150 students, 21 teachers and one part-time librarian and continues to educate and enrich the lives of students with special needs; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Harris-Hillman Special Education School on their 30th anniversary celebrated on October 9, 2005.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring the 30th anniversary of Harris-Hillman Special Education School.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Robbie Hampton on behalf of Harris-Hillman Special Education School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
