RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-1043

A resolution recognizing Dr. Mary D. Morris posthumously.

WHEREAS, on October 3, 2005, family and friends who were privileged to have shared the love and friendship of Dr. Mary D. Morris gathered to celebrate her life; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Morris was an exemplary citizen and professional who worked to improve the quality of life for her fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Morris, was a professional educator for more than 14 years, began her first teaching job in 1991 in the Abingdon, Maryland school system, then as a graduate teaching assistant at West Virginia University and in 1998 she became a part of the Lipscomb University family as associate professor of education where she was an advocate of character education; and

WHEREAS, her interest in character education to help children, young adults and adults improve their everyday lives resulted in establishing the Center for Character Development in 2000; and

WHEREAS, the Center for Character Development is committed to the understanding, promotion, and advancement of excellent character through public awareness, advocacy, and training for a better world; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Morris inspired and motivated hundred of students and young adults during her career and was admired by all whom she taught over the years for her patience and compassion; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Morris's passing leaves a void in the lives of her family, church, colleagues, and students; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council expresses its condolences to the family of Dr. Mary D. Morris at her passing.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr. Mary D. Morris posthumously.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Dr. Mary D. Morris.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
