A resolution proclaiming the importance of responsible computer recycling and recognizing October 22, 2005 as "No Computer Should Go To Waste Day" in Metro Nashville.

WHEREAS, discarded electronic equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines, televisions, and cell phones are one of the nation's and state's fastest growing waste streams; and

WHEREAS, discarded electronic equipment may contain lead, mercury, and other environmentally sensitive materials that could pose a risk to health and environment if not properly disposed; and

WHEREAS, Dell, Inc. has developed the "No Computer Should Go To Waste" consumer education program to assist communities throughout the United States as well as here in Tennessee to raise awareness about computer recycling and offer means for citizens to properly dispose of their unwanted computer equipment at no charge; and

WHEREAS, outreach and education efforts advance our understanding of the importance of recycling computers to protecting our health and environment and encourage us to find sustainable, responsible, and affordable end of life disposal solutions for electronics.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as supporting the efforts of Dell, Inc. and in its initiative to promote computer recycling and in celebration of "No Computer Should Go To Waste Day", October 22, 2005.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
