RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-614

A resolution requesting all departments of the Metropolitan Government to become familiar with the Councilmanic District boundary lines adopted in 2002.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Charter requires that within six months after the publication of the decennial census, the planning commission is to recommend to the Metropolitan Council whether redistricting of the councilmanic districts is necessary to prevent substantial underrepresentation of particular areas as a result of population changes; and

WHEREAS, on January 15, 2002, the Metropolitan Council adopted the redistricting plan, as recommended by the planning commission, and the district councilmembers were elected in accordance with this plan at the August 2003 election; and

WHEREAS, certain members of Council have had experiences in which they have not been asked to sponsor legislation concerning property in their district or where there has been some confusion as to which district certain property is located; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government departments become familiar with the council district boundaries.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting all departments of the Metropolitan Government to become familiar with the Councilmanic District boundary lines adopted in 2002.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Government departments are further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof within sixty (60) from the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to all Metropolitan Government department directors.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
