RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-612

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to erect appropriate signs designating the portion of Demonbreun Street from the Music Row Roundabout to the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center site as “Music Mile”.

WHEREAS, Nashville’s rich music history has appropriately earned it the name “Music City, U.S.A.”; and

WHEREAS, Nashville offers numerous opportunities for music lovers of all genres; and

WHEREAS, the recent construction of the Music Row Roundabout serves as a gateway to the Music Row area that is home to multiple record labels, recording studios, and music publishing companies; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Symphony broke ground in December 2003 on Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which has the potential of being one of the finest concert halls in the world; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the section of Demonbreun Street between the Music Row Roundabout and the Symphony Hall site be designated as “Music Mile” in an effort to further promote tourism in Nashville.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to erect appropriate signs designating the portion of Demonbreun Street from the Music Row Roundabout to the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center site as “Music Mile”.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
