RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-611

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Police Department to provide reports to the Council regarding the date and location of each accident and traffic-related fatality on Nashville’s interstates.

WHEREAS, Nashville’s population, geographical location, and its being the hub of Interstates 24, 40 and 65 result in a high volume of interstate traffic in Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, recent news reports have brought attention to the serious problem Nashville is facing regarding the number of traffic accidents on our interstates; and

WHEREAS, the Council desires to be kept informed as to the number of accidents and traffic-related fatalities on our interstates; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Police Department submit a report to the Council detailing the date and location of each motor vehicle accident and traffic-related fatality on Nashville’s interstates since September 1, 2003, and to provide similar on-going monthly reports thereafter.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Police Department to provide reports to the Council regarding the date and location of each accident and traffic-related fatality on Nashville’s interstates.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Police Chief Ronal W. Serpas.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Police Department is further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof within sixty (60) days from the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
