RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-571
A resolution recognizing November 11, 2004, as Veterans Day.
WHEREAS, the American people have held a special place of honor for not only our veterans who have valiantly served America, from Yorktown and Gettysburg to Iwo Jima and the Persian Gulf conflicts but our military men and women who continue to serve today in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world are well deserving of recognition; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of these brave men and women must never be forgotten and their memory should not be neglected, as their efforts made possible the exemplary quality of life that is enjoyed by the citizens of Tennessee, and the United States; and
WHEREAS, millions of Americans bravely and unselfishly have answered our country’s call to befriend nations in search of peace and liberty for mankind and to defend our nation, its citizens, and our ideals; and
WHEREAS, America’s veterans have experienced sacrifice, hardship, endurance, and courage during their military service; and their families have endured the emotional anxiety and losses that accompany such service; and
WHEREAS, the exceptional leadership, courage, and commitment demonstrated by the veteran members of the armed forces of the United States have created a proud and noble professional heritage; and
WHEREAS, throughout the course of history of the United States veterans of all military branches have demonstrated an extraordinary devotion to duty and love for country, and their dedication, valor, and heroism exemplify the highest standards of personal conduct and career service; and
WHEREAS, time and again, America has called upon our men and women in uniform to take up arms to secure, defend, and protect our great nation, and time again our Armed Forces have responded by over-coming daunting challenges to achieve hard-fought victories; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans have grown in membership and influence, and it embraces in its ranks veterans of all the wars and conflicts in which Americans have served; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes November 11, 2004, as Veterans Day and urge all Americans to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans, who have made a tremendous difference to our country.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing .
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
