A resolution recognizing the Association of the 2,221 Negro Volunteers of WWII.

WHEREAS, Nashville, Tennessee will host the annual reunion of the Association of the 2,221 Negro Volunteers, November 10-15, 2004; and

WHEREAS, J. Cameron Wade, founded the Association of the 2,221 Negro Volunteers; and

WHEREAS, the 2,221 Negro Volunteers of WWII Association is an organization of World War II Black Servicemen who served in the European Theater to defeat the Hitler Regime in 1945; and

WHEREAS, in 1944, 2,221 volunteers from among the Black troops were asked to serve as infantrymen and these men went on to serve with honor and distinction on the battlefields of the European Theater; and

WHEREAS, these men were improperly denied the military awards and decorations that they had rightfully earned while serving in combat and now are only beginning to be recognized for their service in the military; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Association of the 2,221 Negro Volunteers on their commendable service

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Association of the 2,221 Negro Volunteers of WWII.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Association of the 2,221 Negro Volunteers of WWII.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
