RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-569

A resolution recognizing Mr. Booker White for his service with the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, Mr. Booker White was employed with the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation Department for forty years and is well deserving of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, during his duration with Metro Parks Mr. White served in many capacities starting his career as a Senior Recreation Leader in November of 1963, moving up the ranks before eventually being appointed as Superintendent of Sports & Recreation, a position which he held with distinction up until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Booker White successfully implemented a variety of sports programs and activities to target youth and adults across the Nashville area such as flag football, tee ball, softball and special events such as the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Booker White was also instrumental in the training of youth sports coaches, coordinating a reservation scheduling system for the vast number of athletic fields in metro, systematizing sports activities for adult leagues, creating a program for youth street hockey, a Youth Tackle Football Program and the Start Smart program; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure his innovative ideas and standards of fairness were a cornerstone practice that not only motivated his staff, but all that he came in contact with in the arena of metro sports administration; and

WHEREAS, Mr. White was actively involved with many community and civic organizations where he served as a member of the Board of Regents School of Sports Management an organizer for the Tennessee Sportsfest activities, member of the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (TRPA), member of the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) and served in many other capacities with other prominent organizations; and

WHEREAS, Mr. White is to be commended for his timeless efforts for the improvement of recreational opportunities for our children, young adults, and adults and he will sorely be missed by his peers and the Nashville community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Booker White graduated from Pearl High School before continuing his education at Tennessee State University, was united in marriage to Isoria his soul mate of 40 years, and from their blessed union where born daughters Indria and Kimberly; and

WHEREAS, Mr. White has been a member of Sylvan Street Baptist Church for over 40 years where he not only has served as Chairman of the Trustee Board, but is a member of the Male Chorus and the Scholarship Committee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. White is a member of the Nashville Duffer Golf Association which is an organization that is involved in numerous activities which impact the community; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Booker White for his work, leadership, dedication and professionalism with the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation Department and wish him much happiness.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Booker White for his service with the Metropolitan Government.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Mr. Booker White.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
