RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-563

A resolution requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to require that all concrete road construction barricades be equipped with metallic reflective barrier tape or other reflective device to protect the safety of motorists.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of state roads and highways; and

WHEREAS, concrete barriers are frequently used in areas of state highway and interstate construction; and

WHEREAS, these construction barriers are often difficult for motorists to see, especially at nighttime; and

WHEREAS, reflective barrier tape has been proven to increase driver reaction time and prevent serious accidents; and

WHEREAS, requiring reflective tape to be placed on all concrete construction barriers would greatly enhance the safety of all motorists traveling through construction zones.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to require that all concrete road construction barricades be equipped with metallic reflective barrier tape or other reflective device to protect the safety of motorists.
