RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-536

A resolution requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to examine the feasibility and determine the cost of constructing sidewalks and installing guardrails along Harding Place from Interstate 24 to Interstate 65.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is responsible for the maintenance of state roads and highways, including the construction of sidewalks and installation of guardrails along state roads; and

WHEREAS, the section of Harding Place between Interstate 24 and Interstate 65 has been identified as one of the busiest roads in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, many residences are located along this section of Harding Place, as well as a large commercial area at the Nolensville Road intersection; and

WHEREAS, the lack of sidewalks and inadequate guardrails along this section of Harding Place greatly compromises the safety and welfare of the residents in the area; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Tennessee Department of Transportation consider constructing aesthetically pleasing sidewalks and installing guardrails in this highly congested area along Harding Place.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to examine the feasibility and determine the cost of constructing sidewalks and installing guardrails along Harding Place from Interstate 24 to Interstate 65.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
