RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-529

A resolution proclaiming October 2004 as Domestic Violence Awareness month.

WHEREAS, home should be a place of warmth, unconditional love, and tranquility; and

WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide ranging, directly affecting individuals and society as a whole, here in this community, throughout the United States, and the world; and

WHEREAS, domestic violence traumatizes victims, endangers children, harms families, and threatens communities; and

WHEREAS, the problem of domestic violence are not confined to any group of people, but cut across all economic, racial and societal barriers, and are supported by societal indifference; and

WHEREAS, during this month we renew our Nation’s commitment to prevent and punish the perpetrators of this despicable crime and bring hope and healing to those affected by it; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes October 2004 as Domestic Violence Awareness month and urge all citizens of Nashville and all Americans to help victims of domestic violence and work together to address this tragic problem.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming October 2004 as Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
