RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-523

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Department of Public Works to examine other areas in Nashville for streetscape improvements to promote economic revitalization.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is scheduled to undertake a streetscape improvement project along Church Street in an effort to increase accessibility for both vehicles and pedestrians, and to promote economic growth in downtown area; and

WHEREAS, The estimated $5-6 million cost for the project is comprised of tax increment financing through the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency; and

WHEREAS, there are many other areas in the Nashville area that could benefit from a streetscape project similar to the improvements scheduled to be made to Church Street; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Mayor and the Department of Public Works examine the feasibility of initiating similar streetscape improvement projects in other areas of the city to promote economic revitalization.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Department of Public Works to examine other areas in Nashville for streetscape improvements to promote economic revitalization.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to Billy Lynch, the acting director of the Department of Public Works.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
