RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-521

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Department of Public Works to examine the feasibility of and determine the cost of widening Smith Springs Road from Bell Road to its terminus, to help alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Charter provides that the Department of Public Works is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of Metro streets and roads; and

WHEREAS, Smith Springs Road is a public road that is maintained by the Metropolitan Department of Public Works; and

WHEREAS, as a result of recent housing developments and high population growth in the Antioch area, Smith Springs Road has become quite congested during peak morning and evening hours; and

WHEREAS, the widening of Smith Springs Road from Bell Road to its terminus to include an additional lane to be used one way for morning traffic and one way for evening traffic would help alleviate the traffic congestion in this area; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Department of Public Works conduct a study regarding the possible widening of Smith Springs Road.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Department of Public Works to examine the feasibility of and determine the cost of widening Smith Springs Road from Bell Road to its terminus, to help alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours.

Section 2. The Department of Public Works is further requested to respond to the Council in writing as to the action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days from the date of adoption of this Resolution.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Billy Lynch, the acting director of the Department of Public Works.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
