RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-517

A resolution requesting the Hospital Authority to submit a progress report to the Council every six months regarding the transfer of operation of the Knowles Home to the Hospital Authority.

WHEREAS, Substitute Ordinance No. BL2004-304, currently pending before the Metropolitan Council, approves a lease agreement between the Metropolitan Government and the Metropolitan Hospital Authority for the J.B. Knowles Home for the Aged, and authorizes the transfer of the assisted living and adult day care functions of the Knowles Home to the Hospital Authority; and

WHEREAS, Substitute Ordinance No. BL2004-304 provides that all non-professional employees transferred to the Hospital Authority will become civil service employees of the Hospital Authority, and that all transferred employees are to receive the same pay and benefits; and

WHEREAS, the Council desires to ensure that the quality of care received by residents of the Knowles Home is not diminished by the transfer of operations to the Hospital Authority, and to ensure that all employees of the Metropolitan Government transferred to the Hospital Authority as a result of this transfer of operations are adequately provided for; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Hospital Authority submit a semi-annual progress report to the Metropolitan Council regarding the transfer of the assisted living and day care functions of the Knowles Home and the status of the transferred employees.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Hospital Authority to submit a semi-annual progress report to the Council regarding the transfer of operation of the Knowles Home to the Hospital Authority. Such progress report should include, but not be limited to, information regarding the status of the assisted living and day care functions of the Knowles Home and the status of the Knowles Home employees transferred to the Hospital Authority.

Section 2. It is further requested that the first progress report referenced in Section 1 be submitted on December 1, 2004, and each June 1st and December 1st thereafter.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Roxanne Spitzer, the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital Authority, and to each member of the Hospital Authority Board of Trustees.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
