RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-515

A resolution requesting the Mayor to revitalize the Mayor’s Office of Film and Special Events.

WHEREAS, Chapter 2.62 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws created the Mayor’s Office of Film and Special Events to promote economic development in Nashville and Davidson County by attracting and facilitating film activity and special events; and

WHEREAS, some other functions of the Mayor’s Office of Film and Special Events, as specified in Chapter 2.62, include regulating film activity through a centralized permit system, and initiating, promoting, financing, obtaining sponsorship for, and executing special events; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor currently has a Development Associate and Film Coordinator on staff under the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community development, who is responsible for the permitting of film activity; and

WHEREAS, Nashville’s film industry, as well as the community as a whole, would benefit from a revitalization of the Mayor’s Office of Film and Special Events to help attract and facilitate film activity in the Nashville area; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council request the Mayor to revitalize the Mayor’s Office of Film and Special Events to promote and enhance film activities in Nashville.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor to revitalize the Mayor’s Office of Film and Special Events.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
