RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-513

A resolution requesting the Mayor to relocate the Department of Codes Administration and the Planning Department from the Howard School Building to Metrocenter upon completion of the Courthouse renovation.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government has undertaken an extensive renovation project for the Metropolitan Davidson County Courthouse; and

WHEREAS, as a result of the courthouse renovation, the Metropolitan Government has leased space at Metrocenter to temporarily house the Davidson County courts; and

WHEREAS, the offices for the Metropolitan Planning Department and the Department of Codes Administration are currently located in Lindsey Hall and in the Howard School office building; and

WHEREAS, the Howard School campus is difficult for some citizens of Davidson County to access and provides very limited parking facilities; and

WHEREAS, the Metrocenter location is easily accessible from I-65 and would provide an ideal location for the offices of the Planning Department and the Department of Codes Administration.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor to relocate the Department of Codes Administration and the Planning Department from the Howard School Building to Metrocenter upon completion of the Courthouse renovation.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell.

Section 3. The Mayor is further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of the request stated in Section 1 hereof within sixty (60) days from the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
