RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-474

A resolution proclaiming September 2004 as “Preparedness Month” in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the American Red Cross, the U.S. Department of Education, and more than 50 national organizations will launch National Preparedness Month on September 9, 2004; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of National Preparedness Month is to raise the awareness of American residents of a possible terrorist attack and to help Americans to prepare for an emergency; and

WHEREAS, the National Preparedness Month coalition seeks to educate Americans about how to create a kit of emergency supplies, develop an emergency plan, and to become better aware of terrorist threats; and

WHEREAS, the National Preparedness Month will also provide volunteer and training opportunities; and

WHEREAS, local governments have been encouraged to take action to assist in educating citizens about emergency preparedness; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council go on record as proclaiming September 2004 as Preparedness Month.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming September 2004 as “Preparedness Month” in Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
