A resolution recognizing Radnor Lake State Natural Area on receiving the 21st Century American Heritage Place Award.

WHEREAS, Radnor Lake State Natural Area, is the only Tennessee recipient and one of only ten sites throughout the United States to have been chosen to receive the prestigious 21st Century American Heritage Place Award in 2004; and

WHEREAS, there are over 40,000 parks in the United States that are eligible for this award; and

WHEREAS, the 21st Century American Heritage Place Award is given to selected parks that serve as models for recreation, open spaces, and conservation areas necessary to improve the qualify of life, and are chosen because of their unique funding source through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF); and

WHEREAS, the 2004 21st Century American Heritage Place’s were selected for providing close-to-home assessable recreation, demonstrates funding partnerships, shed light on the unique cultural, natural, and historical heritage of America’s parks, offer diversity of conservation and recreational opportunities and meet specific recreational and physical activity needs to nearby communities; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Radnor Lake State Natural Area and the importance of parks and to learn more about these areas of beauty and their historical importance.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Radnor Lake State Natural Area on receiving the 21st Century American Heritage Place Award.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Friends of Radnor Lake.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
