RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-469

A resolution recognizing the 1934 East Nashville High School Class on their 70th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, those graduates of Tennessee public schools who have brought great honor and acclaim to the City of Nashville through their professional successes and magnificent exploits; and

WHEREAS, the East Nashville High School Class of 1934 is one such worthy group of individuals, who will celebrate their 70th Class reunion with special events planned for September 11, 2004; and

WHEREAS, the Class of 1934 was the first class to graduate from East Nashville High School and many of these graduates will return to Nashville to celebrate this Homecoming; and

WHEREAS, J.J. Keyes, was the 1st Principal of East Nashville High School and the Class of 1934 Officers, were Bob Johnston, President, Lew McWhirter, Vice President; Lucile Cate, Valedictorian and Louise Orr, Salutatorian and Secretary; and

WHEREAS, the exceptional members of the 1934 graduating class of East Nashville High School have set a fine example for all Nashvillians to follow; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pleasure that the City of Nashville honor and extend a sincere, warm welcome to these alumni of East Nashville High School; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Class of 1934, for their many achievements and extend our best wishes to these graduates.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 1934 East Nashville High School Class on their 70th Anniversary at this all class reunion.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the East Nashville High School Class of 1934 at the All-Class reunion September 11, 2004.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
