RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-463

A resolution recognizing Deborah Faulkner for her unparalleled service to the people of Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Deborah Faulkner has played an instrumental role with the Metropolitan Police Department for over 30 years and has recently retired from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to pursue other interests; and

WHEREAS, Chief Faulkner began her career September 1, 1973, with the Metropolitan Police Department, where she rose through the ranks to captain in 1990, assistant chief in 1996, deputy chief in 2001, and most recently served as acting chief; and

WHEREAS, Chief Faulkner was instrumental in starting the Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy, the BOLO program, and the Amber Alert in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Chief Faulkner is actively involved with many community and civic organizations including serving on the boards at the YMCA, the Cumberland Valley Girl Scout Council, Senior Citizens, Inc., Goodwill Industries, National Conference of Community & Justice as well as other highly respected organizations; and

WHEREAS, Chief Faulkner’s hard work within the community has been rewarded as she has been inducted into the YMCA’s Academy for Women of Achievement, received the 2002 Athena Award, the CABLE’s Spirit of Leadership award and the Girl Scout’s Thanks Badge; and

WHEREAS, Chief Faulkner is to be commended not only for her timeless efforts to the improvements of our city but for her professionalism, energy and leadership in keeping the Metropolitan Police Department at a tremendous level of high standards through attaining certification for the department and otherwise;

WHEREAS, Chief Faulkner’s leadership, knowledge and experience in the day to day operations of the Metropolitan Police Department will sorely be missed; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Deborah Faulkner for her accomplishments with the Metropolitan Police Department and wish her much success in her future endeavors as she moves forward.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Deborah Faulkner for her unparalleled service to the people of Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Deborah Faulkner.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
