A resolution posthumously recognizing Officer Christy Dedman.

WHEREAS, on the evening of July 19, 2004, while assisting a stranded motorist with a flat tire on the shoulder of Interstate 40 in Nashville, Police Officer Christy Dedman was tragically killed in the line of duty when an approaching tractor-trailer rig struck her patrol car that then hit her; and

WHEREAS, Officer Christy Dedman is the second female Nashville police officer to have been killed in service to the city; and

WHEREAS, Officer Christy Dedman departed this life at the age of thirty-five, leaving behind a loving family, including her parents, a brother, several aunts, uncles and cousins; and

WHEREAS, graduating from the Nashville Police Academy through hard work, dedication and determination, Officer Dedman attained her dream of becoming a Nashville police officer; and

WHEREAS, for nearly a year, Officer Dedman unselfishly, loyally and steadfastly served the citizens of Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County, having been assigned to the Hermitage Precinct when she was killed; and

WHEREAS, Officer Dedman loved her job and her community, and joyfully took on the responsibility to make Nashville a better place; and

WHEREAS, on July 21, 2004, Officer Christy Dedman was presented with the Medal of Valor, the Metropolitan Police Department’s highest honor; and

WHEREAS, the people of Nashville have lost an outstanding citizen and a fine public servant in Officer Christy Dedman; and

WHEREAS, Officer Dedman will be sorely missed, not only by her family but, by her many friends and co-workers; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council extends its deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the members of Officer Dedman’s family, friends and fellow officers upon her untimely passing.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing posthumously Officer Christy Dedman.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to the family of Police Officer Christy Dedman.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
