RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-430

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Finance Department to require that all consultants and companies doing business with the Metropolitan Government have the applicable local and state business licenses required by law.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government purchases goods and services from various businesses located both within and outside Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government also employs various consultants to advise Metro regarding construction and other governmental projects; and

WHEREAS, state law requires that certain businesses obtain a state license and/or pay a local business tax in order to engage in a particular business activity; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government ensure that all persons and entities doing business with the Metropolitan Government have all required state and local business licenses and be current in the payment of all required business taxes.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Finance Department to require that all consultants and companies doing business with the Metropolitan Government have the applicable local and state business licenses required by law.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to David Manning, the Director of Finance.

Section 3. That the Mayor is further requested to respond to the Council as to the action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later that sixty (60) days from the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
