RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-426

A resolution requesting the Convention Center Commission to update the Metropolitan Council regarding the status of the convention center feasibility study.

WHEREAS, a performance audit of the Nashville Convention Center conducted by KPMG in 2003 focused on the operations of the current facility, but did not specifically address future expansion or construction of a new convention center; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government has since contracted with KPMG to conduct a feasibility study regarding the construction of a new convention center in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council recently created a new Convention and Tourism Committee to review legislation affecting the convention and tourism industries, and to make recommendations to the Council; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council be kept apprised of the status of the convention center feasibility study.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Convention Center Commission to update the Metropolitan Council and the Council Convention and Tourism Committee regarding the status of the convention center feasibility study.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Convention Center Commission.

Section 3. That the Convention Center Commission is further requested to respond to the Council in writing regarding the request stated in Section 1 hereof as soon as is practical.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
