RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-422

A resolution approving an application by the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, on behalf of the Kindergarten Readiness Council, for the Early Learning Opportunities Act grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, for its commitment on the part of the Metropolitan Government to provide an in-kind match.

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Health and Human Services is accepting applications for the Early Learning Opportunities Act discretionary grant, with an award of up to $1,000,000, and a required match equivalent to fifteen percent of the amount of the grant; and,

WHEREAS, the Kindergarten Readiness Council, in conjunction with its fiscal agent, the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, if this grant is awarded, the Kindergarten Readiness Council, in conjunction with its fiscal agent, the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, will provide early learning activities to pre-school aged children and their families in Davidson County; and,

WHEREAS, the grant application includes a conditional letter of commitment for the Metropolitan Government to contribute an in-kind match in the amount of $22,683; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth would be the source for such in-kind match; and,

WHEREAS, it is to benefit the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the application of the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, on behalf of the Kindergarten Readiness Council, for the Early Learning Opportunities Act discretionary grant from United States Department of Health and Human Services, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, insofar as it establishes a commitment on the part of the Metropolitan Government to provide an in-kind match, and is authorized to be submitted.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
