RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-392

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to hold meetings on a quarterly basis at one of the twelve cluster high schools.

WHEREAS, there are twelve cluster high schools within the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System to serve the various geographic areas of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Board of Public Education holds its regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Metropolitan Public Schools Administration Building located at 2601 Bransford Avenue; and

WHEREAS, it is sometimes difficult for parents who live a considerable distance from the Bransford Avenue Schools Administration Building to attend meetings of the Board of Public Education; and

WHEREAS, holding school board meetings on a quarterly basis at the various cluster high schools would enable some parents to attend board meetings who otherwise would be unable to because of transportation difficulties; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Board of Public Education hold meetings on a quarterly basis at cluster high schools.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to hold meetings on a quarterly basis at one of the twelve cluster high schools.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Board of Public Education is further requested to respond to the Council within 60 days from the adoption of this Resolution as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request in Section 1 hereof.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and to Dr. Pedro Garcia, the Director of Schools.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
