A resolution to recognize and congratulate the Vanderbilt University Men’s Baseball Team on their outstanding 2004 season.

WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should take time to recognize this outstanding team of young men who displayed excellence in bringing honor to Nashville and the State of Tennessee and serve as ambassadors of this State; and

WHEREAS, one such team is the Vanderbilt University “Commodores” Men’s Baseball Team which ended their most successful season in school history by setting a record of 45 wins, shattering the old mark of 37 set back in 1974, and 19 losses; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of second-year Head Coach Tim Corbin, they won their first NCAA Regional and advanced to their first NCAA Super Regional; and

WHEREAS, Vanderbilt earned its first NCAA Regional through the team’s tenacious defense, explosive offense, and tremendous courage; and

WHEREAS, Warner Jones, second baseman was the leading hitter in the Southeastern Conference, and was recently chosen as first team All-American, and not only was pitcher Jeremy Sowers, the 6th person picked in the recent Major League Baseball Draft, but six of his teammates were picked in the Major League Baseball Draft also; and

WHEREAS, this superb season would not have been possible without the significant contributions of all of the team members; with hard work, training, and determination, these exemplary young men have proven themselves to be formidable competitors, and as they take justifiable pride and satisfaction in their tremendous season, it is indeed appropriate to honor the Vanderbilt University “Commodores” Men’s Baseball Team at this time; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the 2004 Vanderbilt University “Commodores” Men’s Baseball Team and coaches on their accomplishments this season and extend to them continued success in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as to recognize and congratulate the Vanderbilt University Men’s Baseball Team on their outstanding 2004 season.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Head Baseball Coach Tim Corbin on behalf of the Vanderbilt University “Commodores” Baseball Team.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
