A resolution recognizing and commending Judge Andrei Ellen Lee for her laudable service to the people of Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Andrei Ellen Lee was born in Nashville, Tennessee and is a graduate of Tennessee State University; and

WHEREAS, in 2003, she was elected by the Metropolitan Council as the first African-American woman to serve in the General Sessions Courts of this great city; and

WHEREAS, while serving as General Sessions Court Division II Judge Andrei Ellen Lee served the people of Tennessee with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm; and

WHEREAS, she served with passionate commitment on the bench and the people appearing before her court were well-served by her devotion to justice and her insistence upon fairness and equity under the law for all citizens; and

WHEREAS, Andrei Ellen Lee has proven herself to be a gifted attorney, dedicated jurist, consummate women, and loyal citizen, earning the praise of members of the bench and bar alike; and

WHEREAS, throughout her years not only did she serve the Metropolitan Government as Assistant Public Defender and then Senior Referee for Juvenile Court she was an Assistant District Attorney for the State of Tennessee and worked in private practice with several law firms as a sole practitioner; and

WHEREAS, she currently serves as judge over the General Sessions Mental Health Court; and

WHEREAS, she plays an active role in professional and community organizations and was appointed to the Homeless Task Force; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Andrei Ellen Lee for her dedication to justice, salute her distinguished career and wish her all the best.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record recognizing and commending Judge Andrei Ellen Lee for her laudable service to the people of Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Andrei Ellen Lee.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
