RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-374

A resolution recognizing Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we recognize those law enforcement professionals who in their years of work have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm, always remaining true to their motto, “To protect and serve”; and

WHEREAS, Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., is one such estimable officer who has served the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department for over 34 years with ardor and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., Community Services Division is taking a much-deserved retirement from a distinguished law enforcement career that has spawned many changes; and

WHEREAS, during his tour of duty with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., began his police career assigned to the Patrol Division, then worked his way through the ranks holding various assignments including the Vice Division, Internal Affairs Division and numerous others; and

WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., has served with the utmost professionalism and intensity, winning the unqualified respect and admiration of his fellow officers and the public alike; and

WHEREAS, Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., exemplifies the values of hard work, compassion and devotion to the community that are characteristic of a true Tennessean and diligent officer of the law; and therefore,

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and extends to Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement and every continued success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Major Samuel H. Sloss, Jr.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
