RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-318
A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Nashville Sounds to examine the feasibility of constructing a baseball stadium and mixed-use retail and housing development in the Metrocenter area.
WHEREAS, the Nashville Sounds Minor League baseball team has proposed the construction of a new baseball stadium, including a residential and retail development, at the Metropolitan Government-owned downtown thermal site; and
WHEREAS, the Council has established a task force to determine the highest and best use of the downtown thermal property; and
WHEREAS, the Metrocenter area in Nashville is a prime location for such a ballpark and mixed-use development project; and
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Titans practice facility is already located in the Metrocenter area; and
WHEREAS, the Metrocenter area is easily accessible from Interstate 65; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Mayor and the Nashville Sounds examine the feasibility of locating a baseball stadium and mixed-use development at Metrocenter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Nashville Sounds to examine the feasibility of constructing a baseball stadium and mixed-use retail and housing development in the Metrocenter area.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to Glen Yeager, the Chief Operating Officer of the Nashville Sounds.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
