RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-297

A resolution requesting the Mayor’s Office and the departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government to submit a plan to the Council regarding matters for which they are lobbying the Tennessee General Assembly, and to inform the Council as to action taken by the General Assembly in response to resolutions adopted by the Council requesting the General Assembly to take certain action.

WHEREAS, the Mayor employs certain persons within the Mayor’s Office to lobby the Tennessee General Assembly on behalf of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, there are often issues pending with the Tennessee General Assembly that affect various departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government requiring the departments and agencies to lobby the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council routinely adopts resolutions requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to take certain action; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government lobbyists are in the best position to monitor the action taken regarding resolutions adopted by the Council and sent to the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Council be kept informed of the lobbying efforts of the Metropolitan Government and the action taken by the Tennessee General Assembly.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor’s Office and the departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government to submit a plan to the Council regarding matters for which they are lobbying the Tennessee General Assembly, and to inform the Council as to action taken by the General Assembly in response to resolutions adopted by the Council requesting the General Assembly to take certain action.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
