RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-295

A resolution requesting the Council Office to consider the implementation of a phone line that allows citizens to report areas of waste that they see and to voice ideas for the City to consider for implementation.

Whereas, the Mayor and the Council are entering into budget discussions to prepare and pass the operations budget for the fiscal year 2004-2005; and

Whereas, it is imperative that the City continue to look for ways to improve the overall way it operates its programs; and

Whereas, the citizens of the City of Nashville and Davidson County are some of the best individuals for us to count on in finding and identifying ways to cut costs and improve the overall efficiency of the government; and

Whereas, the citizens we represent should be able to call in and make suggestions about areas of waste in our government that can be stopped and matters that can be explored that have the possibility of saving the Metropolitan Government money; and

Whereas, as government officials, it is our responsibility to oversee the budget and make sure that we are accountable for the funds that taxpayers entrust us with; and

Whereas, in performing our budgetary functions, we cannot simply focus on the current budget but also on future budgets as well; and

Whereas, since all of us have a stake in the budgets, it makes sense for us to listen to everyone about ways to maximize our resources.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Council Office to consider the implementation of a phone line that allows citizens to report areas of waste that they see and to voice ideas for the City to consider for implementation.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council further goes on record as requesting the Council Office to promote the line to our citizens as well as to find an appropriate way to provide the comments to the Council.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mr. Donald W. Jones, Director of the Metropolitan Council Office.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
