RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-280

A resolution recognizing and congratulating the State’s first Graduating Candidates of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

WHEREAS, Hunters Lane Comprehensive High School graduates the State’s first group of International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidates on May 17, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Louisa Christina Bates, Maurice Dantonio Brooks, Emily Suzanne Fondren, Alice Michelle Gallagher, Rachael Lynn Hall, Stephanie Danielle Holt, Keenan Bryant Lewis, Nicholas Aaron Qualls, Keisha Nicole Rogan, Connie Yu, and Melissa Nicole Zettler have completed all the IB Diploma requirements and are well deserving of recognition; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of IB Coordinator Designate Dr. Sharon Chaney and Executive Principal Dr. Julie Williams, Hunters Lane Comprehensive High School submitted an application to the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and received Diploma Programme approval in January 2001; and

WHEREAS, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous, pre-university course of study for high school juniors and seniors; and

WHEREAS, through a series of examinations, investigations, presentations, and commentaries, these eleven students have demonstrated skillful handling of language, calculations, and documents; they also developed a 4,000-word Extended Essay, completed a Theory of Knowledge course, and performed 150 Creativity/Action/Service hours outside the classroom; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes these students for their hard work and determination “to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners”.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating the State’s first Graduating Candidates of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to IB Coordinator Dr. Sharon Chaney, former Executive Principal Dr. Julie Williams, current Executive Principal Mr. Clay Myers, and the eleven Diploma Candidates from Hunters Lane Comprehensive High School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
