RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-276
A resolution recognizing the Bordeaux Babes.
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Women’s Club was formed at the Bordeaux Long Term Care Facility in July 2002; and
WHEREAS, at the first meeting it was decided that they would be known as the Bordeaux Babes to reflect their spunk and novel approach to a facility-based recreation program and that their focus would be directed to community service projects; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes have captivated the Bordeaux Long-Term Care Facility staff with their unique commitment to develop projects, provide goodwill for the residents, and become financially able to sponsor additional services and projects; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes provided gift bags for the infants born at Nashville General Hospital at Meharry during the week of Christmas 2003; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes initiated a letter writing campaign to the 101st Airborne Soldiers from Fort Campbell that were deployed to the Middle East for the Iraqi Freedom Campaign; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes organized a bake sale to raise money to purchase pre-paid long distance phone cards to send to the 101st Airborne Soldiers from Fort Campbell that were deployed to the Middle East for the Iraqi Freedom Campaign; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes are making a unique quilt that will be auctioned to provide funds to support a food drive sponsored by Mayor Bill Purcell and the Metropolitan Government Employees and to purchase school supplies for the Bordeaux Long-Term Care Facility PENCIL partner school, Cumberland Elementary; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes have assisted with mass mailings for the Bordeaux Long-Term Care Facility Volunteer/Public Relations office and plan on hosting a birthday party in August for Baker, the Bordeaux Long-Term Care facility therapy dog; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes are committed to help those Bordeaux Long–Term Care Facility residents that are bedridden by painting ceiling tiles with bright scenes so that when those residents awake they have something pleasant to focus on; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes maintain a therapy garden for the enjoyment of the Bordeaux Long-Term Care Facility residents that are mobile; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes, by their actions to help others that they consider
less fortunate than themselves, have turned the table on the perception that
those confined to wheelchairs are isolated, out of touch, and in need; and
WHEREAS, the Bordeaux Babes are not looking for sympathy or empathy; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Bordeaux Babes on their many accomplishments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Bordeaux Babes.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Diane Bledsoe, President.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
