RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-273

A resolution recognizing the Nashville Rescue Mission on their 50th Anniversary of providing service to the homeless in the Nashville community.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Rescue Mission was incorporated on March 16, 1954, and the late Secretary of State, Joe Carr, signed the incorporation papers and served on the Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Rescue Mission began as a storefront ministry with a $12,000 budget which grew in a half-century to $6.5 million and two facilities; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Rescue Mission has long been a leader in Nashville’s charitable community and an ongoing contributing force within the community; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Rescue Mission strives to change the lives of men, women, and children in need by giving food, clothing, shelter, and medical attention to the poor and homeless individuals, also provides counseling, education, life skills, job training to those seeking a way out of addiction, life on the streets or a destructive lifestyle; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Rescue Mission is open seven days a week, 365 days a year to serve the homeless, hungry and hurting population of Middle Tennessee by offering humanitarian and spiritual help; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Rescue Mission is to be commended for their commitment, exceptional leadership as a ministry and outreach center and continuing future services to the people of Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the staff and volunteers of the Nashville Rescue Mission for their selfless efforts on behalf of the homeless and commend them for a job well done over the last half-century and wish them continued success in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Nashville Rescue Mission on their 50th Anniversary of providing service to the homeless in the Nashville community.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Nashville Rescue Mission.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
