RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-272

A resolution recognizing the Davidson County Drug Court cited as a model for the nation.

WHEREAS, during the week of March 6, 2004, the Davidson County’s felony Drug Court was recognized by the Bush administration as a model for the rest of the nation; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson County Drug Court is the only one in the nation with a residential treatment facility; and

WHEREAS, in 1997 the Davidson County Drug Court was founded by Judge Seth Norman as a diversionary program that provides for the supervision of non-violent offenders with substance abuse problems while getting them the help they need; and

WHEREAS, this program offers educational, intensive treatment and other integrated services so that with these tools offenders will possess the ability to become productive members of the community; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Judge Seth Norman and his staff who continue to make this program a success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Davidson County Drug Court cited as a model for the nation.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Davidson County Drug Court.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
