A resolution requesting the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, to the extent possible, to take the action necessary to allow local telephone service subscribers to keep the same telephone number when they move their residence from one area of Davidson County to another.
WHEREAS, pursuant to T.C.A. §65-4-104, the Tennessee Regulatory Authority has general supervisory and regulatory power over all public utilities, including telecommunications providers; and
WHEREAS, T.C.A. §65-4-117 provides in part that the Tennessee Regulatory Authority has the authority to fix just and reasonable standards, classifications, regulations, practices or services to be furnished, imposed, observed and followed thereafter by any public utility; and
WHEREAS, when local telephone subscribers move their businesses or residences from one area of Davidson County to another, they may be required to change telephone numbers, resulting in a substantial inconvenience; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Tennessee Regulatory examine the feasibility of and take the action necessary to allow such subscribers to keep their same telephone number upon relocating to another part of the County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, to the extent possible, to take the action necessary to allow local telephone service subscribers to keep the same telephone number when they move their residence from one area of Davidson County to another.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Deborah Taylor Tate, Chairman of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
