RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-208

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Department of General Services to provide twenty-four hour parking for Members of Council at the parking lot adjacent to City Hall and in the parking garage beneath City Hall.

WHEREAS, Members of the Metropolitan Council have eight twenty-four hour designated parking spaces at City Hall; and

WHEREAS, Members of Council are provided with additional parking after 4:00 p.m. on Council meeting nights at the state-owned lot on Union Street adjacent to City Hall and at the parking garage beneath City Hall; and

WHEREAS, Members of Council often come to City Hall for meetings and to conduct councilmanic business during daytime hours; and

WHEREAS, Members of Council are having difficulty finding places to park and are being ticketed for parking along Polk Avenue for more than an hour; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Members of Council be provided additional twenty-four hour designated parking at City Hall.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Department of General Services to provide twenty-four hour parking for Members of Council at the parking lot adjacent to City Hall and in the parking garage beneath City Hall.

Section 2. The Mayor and the Department of General Services are further requested to respond to the Council within sixty (60) days of the date of the adoption of this Resolution as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to the director of the Department of General Services.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
