RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-206

A resolution expressing Bellevue and West Nashville’s desire for the Metropolitan Government to locate a Convenience Center in Bellevue.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Public Works currently operates two Convenience Centers at which various recyclables and bulk items are accepted; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works recently has been considering locating a Convenience Center in the West Nashville area; and

WHEREAS, a recent proposal to locate a Convenience Center behind the Nashville State Community College campus was met with serious opposition by the neighborhood groups in that area; and

WHEREAS, it is important that Convenience Centers be located in various areas of the city to provide drop-off service to all residents of the County; and

WHEREAS, the two Convenience Centers currently in operation are not centrally located and are not convenient to residents of Bellevue and West Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County that a Convenience Center be located in Bellevue to service the residents of Bellevue and West Nashville and to curb illegal dumping in secluded, rural areas.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as expressing Bellevue and West Nashville’s desire for the Metropolitan Government to locate a Convenience Center in Bellevue.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to Billy Lynch, the Director of the Department of Public Works.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
