RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-204

A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development to join the Tennessee Minority Supplier Development Council as a corporate member.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Minority Supplier Development Council (TMSDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building partnerships between minority-owned businesses supplying goods and services and major corporations needing those goods and services; and

WHEREAS, the TMSDC works with corporations to help them design and implement supplier diversity programs that enhance the economic fabric of Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, the TMSDC has over 130 corporate members consisting of many of the largest companies in Tennessee, as well as several governmental entities including the City of Chattanooga, Knox County Government, the Knoxville Utilities Board, the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, and the State Department of General Services; and

WHEREAS, §4.44.020 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides in part that it is the policy of the Metropolitan Government to assist small and disadvantaged businesses in learning how to do business with the Metropolitan Government, and that a fair proportion of government purchases be made from small and disadvantaged businesses; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government participate as a member of the Tennessee Minority Supplier Development Council to further the policy of the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development to join the Tennessee Minority Supplier Development Council as a corporate member.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell, to Finance Director David Manning, and to Tom Jurkovich, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
