RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-199

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office to examine the feasibility of establishing a “graffiti task force” consisting of a crew of inmates to clean graffiti from public buildings and structures.

WHEREAS, graffiti on public and private buildings and structures creates an aesthetically unpleasing environment, tends to reduce the value of property, promotes blight and criminal activity, and is injurious to the public health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government should make a concerted effort to clean graffiti from public buildings and structures to avoid the detrimental impact of graffiti on the city; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office maintains crews of supervised inmates to pick up trash and litter alongside the streets and roads within Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office establish a crew to clean graffiti from the public buildings and structures within the area of the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office to examine the feasibility of establishing a “graffiti task force” consisting of a crew of inmates to clean graffiti from public buildings and structures.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Sheriff Daron Hall.

Section 3. That the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is further requested to respond to the Council within sixty (60) days from the date of adoption of this resolution as to the feasibility of and/of action taken in response to the request in Section 1 hereof.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
