A resolution recognizing former Tennessee Titan Frank Wycheck on his retirement from the National Football League.
WHEREAS, on Friday, January 23, 2004, veteran tight end Frank Wycheck, whose performance was matched only by his durability, ended his 11-year career by officially announcing his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wycheck is one of the “original” Titans and an ambassador of Titans football to Middle Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wycheck’s retirement from the Tennessee Titans brings to a close an unprecedented era in the history of Tennessee professional football; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wycheck began his professional football career in 1993, as a sixth-round draft pick of the Washington Redskins, before being acquired by the then Houston Oilers in 1995; and
WHEREAS, this future Hall of Fame inductee ended a 9-year affiliation with the Houston Oilers/Titans franchise, retiring with 155 professional games played, an NFL 505 career catches for 5,126 yards and 28 touchdowns making him the NFL’s fourth-leading receiver among tight ends, 99 consecutive games with at least one reception and selected to three Pro Bowls; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wycheck will not only be remembered for his game winning lateral to Kevin Dyson to keep the Music City Miracle rolling but as a hard-working guy who got the most out of his abilities; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wycheck continues to give back to the Nashville community and the entire State of Tennessee by assisting and lending a hand to numerous charitable organizations, such as the Special Olympics of Tennessee through his Harley Ride, and other events throughout the State with special appearances, donations of items for charity auctions and visiting hospital patients; and
WHEREAS, with a deep sense of devotion and commitment to the Special Olympics Frank Wycheck will continue his relationship here in Tennessee in participating along with Councilman Ludye N. Wallace, in the fifth-annual Harley Ride scheduled for May of 2004; and
WHEREAS, it is indeed an honor for the Metropolitan Council to join citizens throughout the State of Tennessee in commending Frank Wycheck on his benevolence, his sportsmanship, and his ability to bring the Volunteer State to the forefront of professional football; and
WHEREAS, his dedication to the Tennessee Titans and the State of Tennessee is truly admirable and worthy of legislative recognition; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Frank Wycheck on his exceptional football career and extends to him best wishes for the future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing former Tennessee Titan Frank Wycheck on his retirement from the National Football League.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to Tennessee Titan Frank Wycheck.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
