RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-193

A resolution recognizing Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation upon receiving the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

WHEREAS, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award was established by Congress in 1987 to enhance the competitiveness of businesses in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is given to U.S. organizations who demonstrate exemplary achievements in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, human resource focus, process management, and business results; and

WHEREAS, Nashville-based Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation (Cat Financial), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar, Inc., was one of seven organizations chosen to receive the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Cat Financial was recognized for its “Business Excellence Model”, its strategic planning processes, its high satisfaction ratings by customers, dealers and employees, its Incentive Compensation and 6 Sigma Rewards programs, and its active community involvement; and

WHEREAS, Cat Financial is expected to recognize the recipients of this prestigious honor in early 2004 at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation upon receiving the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
