RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-192

A resolution recognizing the Tennessee State Museum on the recent accreditation from the American Association of Museums.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee State Museum was accredited by the American Association of Museums (AAM); and

WHEREAS, the American Association of Museums is dedicated to promoting excellence within the museum community through advocacy, professional education, information exchange, accreditation, and guidance on current professional standards of performance to better serve the public; and

WHEREAS, accreditation is the ultimate seal of approval for museums; and

WHEREAS, the Tennessee State Museum is one of only eleven accredited museums in Tennessee and in Nashville one of only three museums to have been awarded accreditation; and

WHEREAS, the Tennessee State Museum is one of the largest state museums in the nation; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the museums achievement of excellence.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Tennessee State Museum on the recent accreditation from the American Association of Museums.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Lois Riggins-Ezell on behalf of the employees of the Tennessee State Museum.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
