RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-187

A resolution recognizing JoAnn Washington on being named “Teacher of the Year” for 2004-2005 at Jere Baxter Middle School.

WHEREAS, JoAnn Washington, educator at Jere Baxter Middle School, is a highly respected and dedicated teacher and it is only fitting that such a public servant be recognized; and

WHEREAS, the leadership, commitment, and devotion that JoAnn Washington has shown speak volumes about her desire to improve the quality of education for our youth; and

WHEREAS, JoAnn Washington recognizes that the future is dependent on children; therefore she is to be commended for her timeless and tireless efforts for the improvement of educational opportunities for children; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her teaching accomplishments, JoAnn Washington has received the “Teacher of the Year” award three times, is listed among Who’s who among American Teachers, received the Channel 4 Terrific Teacher award and several Science Leadership awards; and

WHEREAS, JoAnn Washington’s educational approaches call for a demonstration of affection and approval, words of encouragement and disciplined teaching style to help prepare her students for higher education and challenges that life has to offer; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes JoAnn Washington on receiving the 2004-2005 “Teacher of the Year” award.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing. JoAnn Washington on being named “Teacher of the Year” for 2004-2005 at Jere Baxter Middle School.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to JoAnn Washington.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
