RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-186

A resolution recognizing the memory of Peggy Weil Steine.

WHEREAS, the passing of Peggy Weil Steine on January 18, 2004, at the age of 84, leaves a void in her family, her church, and her community; and

WHEREAS, she is well known as a Nashville philanthropist, champion of the arts and pioneer for women; and

WHEREAS, in her lifetime Peggy Steine received numerous awards for her devotion to the Nashville community, a longtime fundraiser and contributor to the Democratic Party on the local, state and federal levels, an active member of the Jewish community, an avid supporter of the University School of Nashville, and a patron of the arts; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Steine was appointed the first chairwoman of the Metro Arts Commission, served on the founding board of directors of the Frist Center of the Visual Arts, founding member of the Nashville Symphony Association and the Children’s Museum as well as many other arts organization; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Steine was a devoted member of the Congregation Micah; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Steine will be greatly missed but fondly remembered, and her spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those people she so deeply affected; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council express their condolences to the family of Peggy Weil Steine over her passing.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the memory of Peggy Weil Steine.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to the family of Peggy Weil Steine.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
