RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-173

A resolution proclaiming February 22, 2004, as National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day in Nashville Tennessee.

WHEREAS, the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Board of Directors acknowledges Vanderbilt University in recognizing National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day to be held on their campus on February 22, 2004; and

WHEREAS, the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association encourages all Tennesseans to treat their bodies well by keeping them physically fit; and

WHEREAS, the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) recognizes that participation in recreational sports offers outstanding opportunities for individuals to develop healthy lifestyles, high self-esteem, and improved fitness and wellness; and

WHEREAS, the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) strengthens the quality of life for individuals and communities through education and training of recreational sports professionals; and

WHEREAS, the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association has been a driving force in the design and development of “state-of-the art” recreational sports and fitness facilities; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) along with its members, local citizens, and all organizations to unite in calling attention to the healthy benefits gained from participation in recreational sports and fitness and wellness programs.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming February 22, 2004, as National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day in Nashville Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Samuel W. Hirt, Director of Campus Recreation and past–president of National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
