A resolution requesting Nashville Gas Company to stagger the due dates for senior citizens to coincide with the dates on which they receive their Social Security or pension check, and requesting Nashville Electric Service to increase its publicity efforts regarding its social security payment program.
WHEREAS, Nashville Gas Company has a franchise to sell and transport natural gas within the Metropolitan Nashville area; and
WHEREAS, Nashville Electric Service is the provider of electric service to all of Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, Nashville Electric Service currently provides a social security program for social security recipients only that allows those customers to pay their electric bill after receiving their social security check without incurring a late fee; and
WHEREAS, Nashville Gas Company provides several bill payment options, including automatic bank draft, pay by phone, and online payment, but does not offer a payment program for social security recipients; and
WHEREAS, it is sometimes difficult for social security recipients and pensioners on fixed incomes to pay bills on time that are due before such persons receive their social security or pension check; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Nashville Gas Company provide a social security program to customers within the Nashville area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting Nashville Gas Company to stagger the due dates for senior citizens to coincide with the dates on which they receive their Social Security or pension check, and requesting Nashville Electric Service to increase its publicity efforts regarding its social security payment program.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to John L. Clark, Vice President – Tennessee Operations of Nashville Gas, and to Donald Kohanski, the President and CEO of Nashville Electric Service.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
