RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-158
A resolution recognizing Ann Chapman upon her retirement from service with
the Metropolitan Government of Nashville.
WHEREAS, Ann Chapman retired from service with Metropolitan Government after twenty-eight years on December 31, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Ann Chapman began her employment with Metropolitan Government, serving as an Assistant to Mayor Richard Fulton from 1975 – 1987; and
WHEREAS, in 1987 she became the head of the Beautification and Environment Commission with the Department of Parks and Recreation, which position she held until her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Chapman founded the Metro Secretaries Association which provides networking opportunities for department head secretaries; and
WHEREAS, she was Metro’s representative to the Executive Women International (EWI), served as its president in 1982 and was named EWI Woman of the Year in 1982; and served as convention chair for the organization’s annual meeting held in Nashville in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Chapman assisted in the adoption of the tree ordinance and Metro being designated “Tree City, USA” during her tenure with the Commission; and through her leadership at the Commission the Adopt-a-Street program and the Vacant Lot Cleanup Program was instituted; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Chapman was a tireless worker to make Metro a cleaner, greener city; and
WHEREAS, Ann Chapman was an inspiration to all employees of Metropolitan Government and a great example of a dedicated public servant; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Ann Chapman for her untiring service to the Metropolitan Government
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Ann Chapman upon her retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to Ann Chapman.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
